Maria Chavoya to serve third term on AWC District Governing Board


Yuma local Maria Chavoya has been elected to serve another six-year term on the Arizona Western College District Governing Board, representing Yuma County in District #5. Chavoya is an active member of the community, participating in multiple boards and advocating for mentorship and First Generation students.

Director of Agriculture Dr. Hikmet Budak presents at International Plant and Animal Genome Conference


AWC’s Director of Agriculture, Dr. Hikmet Budak, recently represented the institution at the International Plant and Animal Genome Conference, a six day conference that explores the latest advancements in agricultural genomics. In addition to facilitating the first AWC workshop to be accepted at the event, Dr. Budak was invited to speak on the use of artificial intelligence in genetic editing.

Dr. Corr represents Arizona Western College at Hoover Institution Education Summit


AWC President Dr. Daniel Corr recently represented Arizona Western College and the Yuma community at the 2025 Hoover Institution Education Summit. The event addressed the needs of public K-12 education in the US, featuring keynote speakers Dr. Condoleezza Rice and Mariano-Florentino Cuéllar in addition to other prominent scholars and educators.

AWC Music Faculty in concert Feb. 2

Arizona Complete Health provides funding for Allied Health programs


On January 21, Arizona Western College Allied Health programs will receive a $50,000 grant, thanks to a generous contribution from the Arizona Complete Health Community Reinvestment Program. By benefiting these programs and their students, this funding will significantly impact AWC’s efforts to meet the state’s need for healthcare workers.

Olivia Zepeda elected to six more years on District Governing Board


Olivia Zepeda has been re-elected to serve another six-year term on the AWC Board of Directors. Having spent roughly 40 years in the field of education, Zepeda will represent District 4, which includes South and West Yuma County, Somerton, and San Luis, AZ.
