AWCTheatre presents When the Lantern Swings: An evening with Yuma author Allen T. Grimes
October 23, 2024Yuma, AZ (October 23, 2024) – Just in time for Halloween, the Arizona Western College Theatre Club proudly presents a short evening exploring the work of local Sci-Fi/Horror author Allen T. Grimes.
On October 30, AWCTheatre will bring to life one of Grimes' short stories, adapted for voice acting by Jonathan Close and Ann Wilkinson, both professors at AWC. The collaborative event showcases some of the immense artistic talent that Yuma has to offer.
“I first became aware of Allen's work when his spouse, AWC Vocal Music Professor Deltrina Grimes, shared some of his short stories with me a few years ago. I always wanted to turn them into radio plays,” said AWC Theatre Professor Wilkinson, who oversees the AWCTheatre Club. “When Allen’s latest novel was published, I called upon another great local talent, English Professor Jonathan Close, for a collaboration. Between Allen, Jonathan, and the cast – I think we have a good story for Halloween!”
In addition to publishing short stories in various magazines, Grimes’ novel credits include The Face of the Deep, The Wicked Shall Rot, The Ghosts of Lake Hope, and When the Lantern Swings, which was published in July 2024.
“As a local artist, I've been truly humbled by the support I've received from the community at large and the Arizona Western College Theatre Department in particular,” Grimes shared.
Following the AWCTheatre performance, Grimes will read an excerpt from his latest published novel, the Horror/Thriller When the Lantern Swings. The evening will conclude with a Q&A and book signing. Books will be available for purchase at the event.
The free event will be held in the Theater building of the AWC-Yuma campus from 7 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, October 30. A campus map can be found here.
