AWC to offer TEC 100 class through new trades program in La Paz County


Enroll now for Fall 2018 to work toward a AAS degree in Industrial Technology

Parker, AZ (June 27, 2018) – Arizona Western College is expanding their offerings in La Paz County with the launch of a new trades program.

They’re kicking off a new Associate in Applied Science Degree program in Industrial Technology this fall by offering TEC 100, a core curriculum introductory skills course. The class will prepare students for certificates or degrees in technology and trades.

CTE Experience Week happening July 9-13


Yuma, AZ (June 27, 2018) –Arizona Western College’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) Department will be hosting CTE Experience Week featuring sessions on Law Enforcement, Woodworking, CPR, and Licensed Massage Therapy.
The five-day camp will be held from July 9-13 from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. each day at the AWC Yuma Camps, 2020 S. Ave 8E. The classes will be limited to 20 participants 21 years of age and older.

AWC Professor selected for PECOP Fellowship, to attend national conference


Yuma, AZ (June 18, 2018) – Arizona Western College Professor of Biology Joann Chang has been selected for a year-long Physiology Education Community of Practice (PECOP) Fellowship by the American Physiology Society (APS).

The PECOP project is designed to build a growing and dynamic community of undergraduate physiology educators who interact, share resources, and collaborate on an ongoing basis.

“It is a wonderful experience that will benefit me and the students and faculty at AWC,” she said.

Former AWC student to be featured speaker at AVID Summer Institute


Yuma, AZ (June 7, 2018) – Each year more than 40,000 educators gather at one of 12 AVID Summer Institutes to learn how to successfully implement AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) in their schools.

One of the featured speakers at this year’s 2018 AVID Summer Institute in Denver will be Melanny Navarro, a former Arizona Western College student and current fifth-grade teacher at Roosevelt Elementary School. The professional learning event will take place from June 12-14.

Fee Waived For AWC Mathematics Readiness Camps


FREE preparation for math placement and testing at AWC at summer learning camp for young students

Yuma, AZ (June 7, 2018) – Arizona Western College announced today that the fees will be waived for students interested in the Mathematics Readiness Camp.  There will be a number of camp opportunities for young students this summer including Summer Science Camp, CTE & Mathematics.

Multiple grant-funded CTE & Mathematics Readiness Camps will be available to students ages 15 and up.

AWC alumni shares experiences as a college student, governing board member


Parker, AZ (June 7, 2018) – It’s never too late to go to college and earn a degree.

When Randy Hartless moved to Parker in 1990, he enrolled at Arizona Western College with no clear plan of what degree he wanted to pursue. He started taking a variety of courses because he had an interest in learning, but it wasn’t until 20 years later, at age 52, that he decided to focus on earning an associate degree.
