AWC students place third at Business Competition

April 17, 2025

Phoenix, Ariz. (April 17, 2025) – On April 4, 2025, sixteen students from the Arizona Western Business Club and Dr. Kristine Duke, Professor of Accounting, traveled to the University of Arizona Eller College of Management to compete in the 2025 Arizona Community College Excellence Business Competition, with one of the four-student teams from AWC placing third overall.

Enterprise Mobility, the event’s sponsoring business, challenged students to create a marketing plan aimed at boosting consumer awareness of the many brands under its umbrella. Representing AWC and taking third place were Engineering major Christian Baez, Accounting major Emily Ruiz, and Business majors Emma Rothemberger and Ixchel Garcia.

"Not only is this a fun event to take part in where students get to network with fellow students from Arizona community colleges, but they get the opportunity to respond to Tucson business leaders presenting real life scenarios,” Dr. Duke said. “This event gives the students the chance to be innovative, entrepreneurial, and showcase the skills they have learned at Arizona Western College."

"It was a great experience,” shared AWC Business major Javier Cortez, “and I highly recommend any future business or entrepreneurial student to attend to learn about real life business topics."

The trip was entirely funded through the fundraising efforts of the Business Club.
