Governor proclaims April Community College Month
April 15, 2025AWC invites community to participate in #CCMonth campaign
Yuma, Ariz. (April 15, 2025) – Governor Katie Hobbs has proclaimed April 2025 as Arizona Community College Month, recognizing the vital role that community colleges play in shaping the workforce, economy, and future of our state. Arizona Western College (AWC) is encouraging current and former students, supporters, business partners, and the community to join the 2025 #CCMonth campaign to bring attention to the importance of the college in our community by sharing why the choice to attend AWC was the #BestDecisionEver.
Since 1963, AWC has served the Yuma and La Paz communities by providing valuable educational opportunities and training experiences that are flexible and affordable. Offering a wide range of academic programs, career and technical training, adult programs, and other non-credit courses, AWC seeks to make higher education accessible and attainable for all of its students. As the only community college in the state to house all three state universities on its campus, AWC boasts the highest percentage of students transferring to Arizona public universities and earning a bachelor’s degree within 4 years.
AWC will have awarded over 2,600 degrees and certificates by the end of the academic year, and over 1,600 people from the community will benefit from earning a college degree. The institution looks forward to celebrating our graduates at the 2025 Commencement on Friday, May 16.
"Community colleges are engines of opportunity, transforming lives through access, affordability, and support,” said AWC President Dr. Daniel Corr. “Whether it’s a student earning a degree to launch a new career, a parent returning to school to build a better future for their family, or a high schooler discovering their passion, community colleges empower individuals to achieve their dreams. During Community College Month, we celebrate the resilience and determination of our students—and the vital role community colleges play in strengthening our communities."
Arizona’s ten community college districts include Arizona Western College, Central Arizona College, Cochise College, Coconino Community College, Eastern Arizona College, Maricopa Community Colleges, Mohave Community College, Northland Pioneer College, Pima Community College, and Yavapai College.

About #CCMonth:
#CCMonth is a grassroots education and outreach campaign coordinated by the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT) across the United States every April. The primary goals of #CCmonth are to improve awareness of the economic, academic, and employment advantages of attending community colleges. This year, organizers are encouraging students and others to take the message to their favorite online social platforms to spread the word about the importance of community colleges in cultivating skills for the future, and the unique affordability that community colleges offer to financially challenged generations.
