Homeland Security program adds Border Security summer course

March 17, 2025

Yuma, Ariz. (March 17, 2025) – This summer, the Homeland Security program at Arizona Western Entrepreneurial College will offer an online Border Security course.

With an emphasis on the US-Mexico border, HLS-220 Border Security focuses on current issues affecting the Yuma community, state, and country at large. The course will provide a comprehensive overview of border security, covering key topics including economic interdependence, human trafficking, the role of technology in enhancing border security, and transportation security.

"As we fight to address human trafficking and illegal activities along the border, an understanding of the actual border is a necessity,” shared Professor Mark Sims, who will be teaching the class this summer.

HLS-220 will run online from June 2 to July 25, with an in-person course offered on the Yuma Campus in Fall 2025. This class aligns with the Administration of Justice Studies Associate of Arts track.

To apply, students can contact their academic advisor or search the Course Catalog on Self Service under HLS-220.
