Working mom of three shares about her experiences at AWC

Parker, AZ (May 15, 2018) – The small school atmosphere and number of services available to help guide students were two deciding factors for Heather Huhtala when considering whether or not to attend Arizona Western College. The proximity of AWC’s Parker Campus to her home and the affordability of the classes helped too, especially since she was also raising three children and working at the same time.

Huhtala took a combination of online and in-person courses to earn her Associate of Arts degree in Psychology from AWC in 2016.

One of her favorite memories was the graduation ceremony and having her family there to celebrate her accomplishment. She enjoyed having the opportunity to see her classmates achieve their goals too.

“It was also awesome to see all the other people in my community that were furthering their education,” Huhtala said. “You get so caught up in your own journey sometimes that it’s easy to forget that there are so many other people going through the same thing as you.”

She’s currently working to further her education by earning a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Arizona. Huhtala hopes to pursue a career in school psychology, family therapy, or occupation psychology in the future.
