Adult Education Program now taking applications for January 2025
November 13, 2024Yuma, AZ (November 13, 2024) – As a result of the WIOA Title II Arizona Adult Education Grant, Arizona Western College is pleased to offer free Adult Education courses for those seeking to achieve their education and career goals.
Through the Adult Education Program at AWC, students can earn a High School Equivalency (HSE) Diploma, take English courses for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), and gain Integrated Education Training (IET), a dual-pathway where students who are enrolled in HSE or ESOL courses can simultaneously participate in a job training program.
“We are excited about providing Adult Education services at AWC,” said Yaneli Pasillas-Miller, Director of Adult Education at AWC. “It is our goal to support students in the pursuit of their goals. We encourage them to look beyond as well as we have many career pathways and opportunities to offer at our college.”
Adult Education provides three flexible options for completing the HSE Diploma:
- GED Pathway – Achieve an HSE Diploma through testing.
- College Credit Pathway – Earn an HSE Diploma while also earning college credits towards a degree.
- HSE Plus Career Readiness Pathway – A versatile way to earn an HSE Diploma by accumulating points through college courses, previously earned high school credits, work experience, and industry recognized credentials.
In addition to traditional courses, the Adult Education Program provides mentorship and advisement services where advisors check in with students every eight weeks to help support their goals.
Abel Ricardo Garcia, an HSE Diploma Recipient through the AWC Adult Education Program, shared, “My high school diploma has helped me by opening up opportunities for higher education and different jobs. It’s also made me more confident in achieving my educational goals. Now that I have finished this, I know my dreams are in reach and I can do whatever I set my mind to.”
Adult Education courses are offered districtwide in San Luis, Yuma, Parker, and Quartzsite.
With Fall courses already underway, students interested in applying for the AWC Adult Education Program can begin their application today for the Spring semester starting in January 2025.
