High school students utilize summer break for Early College Experience at AWC
August 29, 2018Parker, AZ (August 29, 2018) – Three students from Parker High School took part in the Early College Experience at Arizona Western College by taking a college class over the summer.
Antenor Esquerra, Melati Ocampo, and Gabriela Ocampo received college credit for completing AST-130 (The Planets) taught by Professor Robert Reaves. And they did so at a lower rate, as students who are 17 and under only pay $25 per credit hour in comparison to the $84 per credit hour cost for those 18 and older.
The teens participated in hands-on assignments while learning about planets, including their origin, evolution, and environments. Students were taught the differences between comets and asteroids as well as about outer moons, rings of planets, lunar bases, and human Mars missions.
Access to college classes helps high school students investigate career paths, complement their high school education, and discover their passions. For some students, it’s a chance for them to take control of their future.
