Students win third place during research competition


Yuma, AZ (December 4, 2018) – Two former Arizona Western College students were recently awarded third place for their work during a Student Research League (SRL) competition.

Luciana Elizarraras and Khang Van Pham were recognized with a plaque and a monetary award during the American Mathematical Association for Two-Year Colleges (AMATYC) annual conference in Orlando in November. The SRL project was the first research-based competition to be held by AMATYC in April.

AWC to use BankMobile to deliver student disbursement payments


Yuma, AZ (December 3, 2018) – Arizona Western College is partnering with BankMobile to process all student disbursement payments beginning Spring 2019.

A financial company focused solely on education, BankMobile is used by over 800 institutions across the U.S. including Imperial Valley College and Arizona State University. BankMobile helps colleges and universities deliver financial aid credit balances to students quickly, securely, and efficiently.

No fee ATMs will be available at/near most AWC campuses in San Luis, Parker, Yuma, and Quartzsite.

AWC Football Loses Head Coach


Minnick taking talents to Garden City

Yuma, AZ (November 30, 2018) – After leading the Matador Football program to national prominence, Head Coach Tom Minnick is taking his storied career to lead the Broncbusters of Garden City Community College in Kansas.

Minnick’s last game with AWC will be this Saturday afternoon as the Matadors take on the Lackawanna Falcons. Kickoff is set for 1:00 pm at Veterans Memorial Stadium. Tickets are $10 for reserved seating, $5 for general admission.

Here Comes the Bowl!


YUMA, Ariz.(November 29, 2018) – Year in and year out, the El Toro Bowl has brought in some of the top junior college football talent in the nation. This year’s version is no different, and two NJCAA Top 20 teams will square off on Saturday in Yuma at Veterans Memorial Stadium. The sixth-ranked Lackawanna College Falcons (10-0) travels to Yuma to take on the 19th ranked Arizona Western College Matadors (6-4).

Rebekah Eaves signs with William Penn University


Yuma, AZ (November 28, 2018) – Rebekah Eaves is hanging up her Matador jersey as she moves on from the Arizona Western College Volleyball team to become a Statesmen at William Penn University.

Eaves, a sophomore defensive specialist, signed her National Letter of Intent with William Penn during a signing ceremony at AWC on Wednesday, Nov. 28.

After coming to Yuma from Farmington, New Mexico as a walk on, Eaves earned a scholarship as a sophomore, allowing her to earn an associate degree in Elementary Education.

AWC Choral Department to perform “Singing in the Holiday” Christmas Concert


Yuma, AZ (Nov. 28, 2018) – The Arizona Western College Choral Department will be “Singing in the Holiday” during their annual Christmas concert on Friday, Dec. 7.

The concert will begin at 7 p.m. at St Paul's Episcopal Church, 1550 S. 14th Ave. AWC Youth Choir, Chamber Singers, and Yuma Chorale will be featured during the performance.

The community is invited to attend this free event. Donations will be accepted to support scholarships for the next generation of musicians.

Rock Auction to benefit AWC Geosciences


Material to be on display for public viewing prior to auction

Yuma, AZ (November 27, 2018) – The Arizona Western College Geosciences Department will be holding a Rock Auction featuring almost 6,000 pounds of materials on Saturday, Dec. 8.

All proceeds from the event will go to the AWC Foundation Geoscience Fund to help support scholarships, field trips, and future supplies.

Pet-A-Pup Stress Relief event to help students gear up for finals week


Yuma, AZ (November 27, 2018) – Four-legged visitors will be stopping by the Arizona Western College Yuma Campus on Thursday, Dec. 6, as part of the Pet-A-Pup Stress Relief event.

The Yuma Chapter of Love on a Leash will be bringing their therapy dogs to the 3C Breezeway from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. to help the campus community alleviate stress as they prepare for final exams.

“Why not come out and give these sweet dogs some love and relieve some stress while you're at it?” said Christine Rouff, AWC Health and Wellness Coordinator.

Join AWC’s Philosophical Society for documentary screening


Yuma, AZ (November 26, 2018) – The Arizona Western College Philosophical Society will be holding a screening of the 13th documentary on Thursday, Nov. 29.

In this film, scholars, activists, and politicians explore the intersections of race, justice, and mass incarceration.

The event is open to students, faculty, staff, and the public. The screening will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the grassy area behind the 3C building on the AWC Yuma Campus, 2020 S. Ave. 8E.

Attendees are encouraged to bring their own chair or blanket for the event.
