Veteran Network Ally Training to be held at AWC


Yuma, AZ (February 26, 2019) – Arizona Western College’s Department of Diversity, Inclusion, and AccessABILITY is hosting an upcoming Veteran Network Ally Training for the campus and community to attend.

The Veteran Network Ally program was developed at California State University Long Beach as a faculty and staff awareness program designed to educate members of the university community about the military, foster a supportive campus atmosphere, and establish a network of visible allies for veterans.

Transfer & Career Expo to focus on Health, Industrial Trades, Public Safety & STEM


Yuma, AZ (February 20, 2019) – Arizona Western College will be holding a Transfer & Career Expo on Wednesday, March 6, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the 3C Breezeway/Courtyard of the AWC Yuma Campus, 2020 S. Ave. 8E. The expo will specifically highlight Health, Industrial Trades, Public Safety, and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) opportunities for current and prospective students.

AWC Transfer Week starts March 4


Yuma, AZ (February 20, 2019) – Arizona Western College will be hosting 2019 Transfer Week from March 4-7. During this week, students will have a chance to explore a variety of different transfer opportunities. Each day, one of the Arizona universities will be featured and a Transfer and Career Expo will also be held to provide students with the option of networking with employees and organizations for degree paths offered at participating universities.

ACFY $7,200 grant award extends reach of Veterans Art Project


Yuma, AZ (February 19, 2019) – Thanks to a one-time $7,200 grant award from the Arizona Community Foundation of Yuma, the Veterans Art Project at Arizona Western College will now be able to continue through December.

“We, at the Arizona Community Foundation of Yuma, are proud supporters of education, art, and our veterans. We hope that our quick call to action, will ensure that local veterans continue to participate in the Veterans Art program at AWC,” said ACFY Regional Director Veronica Shorr.

AWC music faculty and community members to perform together


Yuma, AZ (February 15, 2019) – Music lovers of all ages are invited to an upcoming concert in the foothills featuring AWC music faculty and community members.

The Sonoran Chamber Players: AWC Faculty and Friends performance will be held at 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 3, at Gloria de Cristo Lutheran Church, 11273 E. 40th St.

The concert will include a vocal ensemble, the AWC String Ensemble, the Yuma Brass, and the Sonoran Chamber Players. Works performed will feature vocal soloists, horn, cello, flute, piano, and tuba.

ASU student attributes higher education success to Upward Bound program


Parker, AZ (February 14, 2019) – Robin Martinez Jr. always knew that he wanted to attend college, but as a first-generation student, higher education seemed more like a distant dream than an attainable goal.

That all changed when he became a part of the Arizona Western College Upward Bound program as a freshman at Parker High School.

“Being a first-generation student, I had no one to guide me along the winding pathways that lead to college. Upward Bound became that guide for me,” he said.

Peter & the Wolf to be performed by AWC Civic Orchestra & Cibola Drama


Yuma, AZ (February 13, 2019) – The Arizona Western College Civic Orchestra and the Cibola High School Drama Department are teaming up to bring Peter and the Wolf to life for families in the community.

The AWC Civic Orchestra, String Ambassadors, Jr. String Ambassadors, and Twinklers will be presenting a production of the theatrical, symphonic fairy tale for children at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 23, at Cibola High School, 4100 W. 20th St.
