Early childhood classroom serves as learning lab for teachers of students with special needs


Yuma, AZ (March 27, 2019) – A new early childhood classroom where early childhood educators in Yuma County can learn to work with young children with special needs recently opened on the Arizona Western College campus.

First Things First, Yuma School District One, and Arizona Western College have partnered to open an inclusion classroom in the College’s Child Development Learning Lab. The early childhood classroom, which includes 10 students with special needs and 10 typical students, provides additional learning to preschool-aged children in Yuma County.

QPR Suicide Prevention & Awareness Training to be held at AWC


Yuma, AZ (March 15, 2019) – Arizona Western College’s Health and Wellness Department will be hosting a QPR Suicide Prevention and Awareness Training on Wednesday, March 20.

The QPR mission is to reduce suicidal behaviors and save lives by providing innovative, practical, and proven suicide prevention training. QPR stands for Question, Persuade, and Refer - three simple steps anyone can learn to help save a life.

AWC & NAU-Yuma to hold annual Startup Weekend


Yuma, AZ (March 14, 2019) – Arizona Western College and Northern Arizona University-Yuma are hosting their third annual Startup Weekend from April 12-14, as a way to help aspiring entrepreneurs launch new business ideas.

Participants will take giant leaps in learning the skills needed to create a business, work on a startup team, and connect with people and resources all while experiencing the highs, lows, fun, and pressure that can come along with a startup business.

“I Choose Love” concert to raise funds for student vocal lessons


Yuma, AZ (March 14, 2019) – Arizona Western College vocal students and Chamber Singers will be teaming up with the Trinity United Methodist Chancel Choir to perform a biannual fundraiser concert on Sunday, March 24.

The “I Choose Love” concert will raise money for students that wish to take vocal lessons at AWC over the summer. While the concert is free and open for the public to attend, donations will be accepted to support the Letha Mae Colvin Summer Vocal Scholarship fund.

The performance will begin at 4 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 3030 S. 8th Ave.

Scholarship recipients and donors to be recognized at annual celebration


Yuma, AZ (March 14, 2019) – The Arizona Western College Foundation will hold their Celebration of Scholars event on March 21, to honor scholarship recipients and donors.

The annual appreciation banquet is held to recognize the academic achievements of scholarship recipients and the generosity of donors who have made those opportunities possible. In 2018, the AWC Foundation granted almost $322,000 in scholarship awards and program support.  

Sustainability Fair to educate public on reducing environmental impact


Yuma, AZ (March 13, 2019) – The 12th Annual Arizona Western College Sustainability Fair will be held on Thursday, March 21, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the LR Fountain Area of the Yuma Campus, 2020 S. Ave. 8E.

The community is invited to stop by and learn various ways to reduce their personal impact on the environment and how they can promote a sustainable environment for future generations.

“Build Your Future” during AWC open house


Yuma, AZ (March 13, 2019) – Interested in attending Arizona Western College or starting a new career path?

The community is invited to the Build Your Future Open House on Wednesday, March 20, to come out and see what certificate and degree programs the college has to offer, meet associated clubs, interact with simulation labs, talk to educational leaders, and meet industry professionals.

The open house will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. in the 3C Building and Breezeway, located on the AWC Yuma Campus, 2020 S. Ave. 8E.
