Leaders in education convene at Arizona Attainment Alliance Retreat
February 6, 2025AWC spotlighted for efforts in driving student success and educational access
Phoenix, Ariz. (February 6, 2025) – On February 3-4, the Arizona Attainment Alliance (A++) convened at the Phoenix Bioscience Core to discuss cross-institutional strategies for increasing the state’s rate of educational attainment. Ariona Western College President Dr. Daniel Corr was a featured panelist at the retreat and showcased the institution’s efforts in advancing student success and access to education.
A++ is a strategic partnership that began in 2022 between Northern Arizona University, AWC, and the Arizona community college districts. The Alliance seeks to meet the demands of Arizona’s growing economy by making high-quality education more accessible and attainable for all Arizona students.
“We are all about transforming lives—whether through Universal Admissions, dual enrollment, or new advising models,” Dr. Corr said. “Our collective efforts are not just about policy or programs; they’re about opening doors for students and creating pathways that uplift entire communities.”
In addition to analyzing the impact of innovative programs such as Universal Admissions, AZ Ahead, AGEC, and Dual Enrollment, the event specifically highlighted AWC’s participation in the Aspen/AASCU Intensive Transfer Cohort. This panel was moderated by AWC Associate Dean for Advising and Student Success Cristina Gonzales and Marcy Hurtado, NAU Director of Statewide Services & Operations.
“At AWC and NAU-Yuma, our shared mission is to expand access to high-quality, local education and create life-changing opportunities for students,” Gonzales said. “Dr. Cruz Rivera’s 2021 visit to AWC, alongside Dr. Corr, reaffirmed our collective commitment to student success and community growth.”
The retreat brought together leaders, educators, and stakeholders from across the state. AWC leadership in attendance included Dr. Daniel Corr, Cristina Gonzales, University Partnerships Manager Eva Aviles, Vice President of Student Services Bryan Doak, and Chief of Staff Ashley Herrington. Representing NAU-Yuma were Marcy Hurtado and Dr. Mike Sabath, Campus Executive Officer of the Yuma branch campus.
