Hispanic Heritage Art Exhibition earns national achievement award for Yuma County
May 31, 2018Call for submissions to begin in August for 2018 exhibit
Yuma, AZ (May 29, 2018) – Yuma County received a national achievement award for the Hispanic Heritage Art Exhibition “Origins” put on by the San Luis Library and Arizona Western College San Luis Learning Center. The exhibit is held annually at the San Luis Library in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month.
The National Association of Counties (NACo) recognized Yuma County with the award, which honors innovative, effective county government programs that enhance services for residents.
The Fourth Annual Hispanic Heritage Art Exhibition ran from September 14, to October 14, 2017, and had 1,699 visitors, including school tours. Last year’s exhibit broke all previous visitor attendance records. A total of 34 artists were featured and 164 works of art were displayed. As a direct result of the exhibition, an Artists’ Club has been organized and meets weekly. In addition to providing an opportunity for City of San Luis residents to view the work of various local artists, the exhibit also encouraged patrons to visit the library and see what programs are available.
“Counties seize opportunities to deliver services more efficiently and build stronger communities every day. Award-winning programs are examples for counties that are determined to enhance services for our residents,” said NACo President Roy Charles Brooks.
NACo will recognize award-winning counties at its 2018 Annual Conference and Exposition in Tennessee in July.
The Hispanic Heritage Art Exhibition will begin accepting submissions for their next exhibit in August. This year’s exhibit will run from September 13, to October 15, 2018 and will have an international scope featuring a photography exhibition from Mexico, “Frases y Dichos.”
Artists of all ages, levels, and media types are welcome to apply to submit their work.
