Yuma, AZ (October 27, 2021) – For the first time in the program’s history, the Arizona Western College Men’s Soccer team (17-0 overall, 9-0 ACCAC) remained undefeated all season.
The Matadors won their 17th consecutive game on Saturday in Tucson against Pima, earning the title of ACCAC Conference Champions. This is the 4th time the program has held this title.
Now the team will be looking to gain their 3rd NJCAA Division I Region I Championship win this Friday.
“We have an exciting, attacking team which is really enjoyable to watch. This group of players has high levels of technical expertise and tactical dynamism,” said Kenny Dale, AWC Head Men’s Soccer Coach.
“I would encourage all young soccer players out there to come and see the positive examples provided by our players. Our team has had a record-setting performance this year and every time they step over the white line they are in search of more. I have rarely coached a more motivated group. They still have a lot to prove.”
Coach Dale was recently recognized by the ACCAC as the Coach of the Year. Seven Men’s Soccer players earned all-conference and all-region acknowledgments as well. Michele Signorelli, Michael Appiah, Ethan Warne, Ridwane Boukraa, and Atsuki Sato were named to ACCAC and Region I First Teams. Nozomu Kamei was named to the Region I First Team and the ACCAC Second Team. Additionally, Hugo Catherine was recognized on the Region I First Team and received an ACCAC Honorable Mention.
Three Women’s Soccer players also received all-conference and all-region honors. Diana Sanchez and Jaeda Centeno were named to ACCAC and Region I First Teams. Paulina Fierro was recognized on the Region I First Team and ACCAC Second Team.
The Women’s Soccer team (10-4-2 overall, 5-3-2 ACCAC) beat Pima on Saturday as well, securing their spot in the Region I Final as the #1 Seed in Division I ACCAC.
The AWC Men’s and Women’s soccer teams will be hosting the NJCAA Division I Region I Championship on Friday, Oct. 29, at Matador Soccer Field. The Women’s game will begin at 4:30 p.m. and the Men’s at 7 p.m. Both matches will be broadcast on AWC TV and livestreamed on azwestern.edu/live.
