Yuma, Ariz. (March 28, 2025) – Arizona Western College Women’s Soccer player Fernanda Quiroz has been called up to play on the Mexican Women’s National U-20 Team.

“Playing on this team means commitment, passion, and teamwork,” Quiroz reflected. “Every game is an opportunity to grow and give my best. My goal is to improve every day and leave a positive mark on the team.”

The freshman forward, originally from Tijuana, Mexico, has played for Club Tijuana and the Mexican National U-15 and U-17 teams. Quiroz scored four goals and recorded five assists in her debut season with the Arizona Western Matadors.

“Excited for Fernanda to get this opportunity to be part of her national team; it’s a privilege and honor to have the opportunity to go forth and represent your country,” said Matadors Head Women’s Soccer Coach Victor Verdugo. “As a program we hope to continue on this path that we are able to mentor and have student athletes who have the opportunity to be part of our institution and be prepared to take on these great opportunities.”

“It was the vision for the program to be able to bring in the best student athletes from across the world,” Coach Verdugo continued, “and Fernanda being called to her national team only gives the program a further drive to continue to work with our student athletes to be prepared for these opportunities. We are very proud of Fernanda being part of our program and stepping forward representing Arizona Western College with her national team.”

Quiroz will report for training camp in Mexico City on March 31.
