AWC Performing Arts presents Marc Acito comedy Birds of a Feather

February 26, 2025

Yuma, Ariz. (February 26, 2025) – This March, the Arizona Western College Theatre Club will present four performances of the Marc Acito comedy, Birds of a Feather, which is based on the true events that inspired the famously banned children’s book, And Tango Makes Three.

AWC Professor of Theatre Ann Wilkinson shared, “Basically, this is a play about love—with and without feathers. Playwright Marc Acito manages to pack a lot of topical LGBT issues into a ninety-minute one act that explores romance, family and bird-brained human behavior.”

Birds of a Feather is a comedy about two bird families—a pair of male penguins at the Central Park Zoo who hatch and adopt a chick, and two hawks living and raising their own brood on a Central Park rooftop. Families of every breed and kind are celebrated in this heart-warming play and its exploration of psychology, zoology, and what it is that truly defines a family. Marc Acito won the 2012 Helen Hayes Award for Best New Play for this unique take on relationships.

AWC students performing in the show include: Cristina Bloom, Abril Bribiesca, Kathia Enriquez, Stephanie Lopez, Jacob Natseway,  Jackie Quesenberry, Devlyn E. Quinn, Matthias Rodriquez, Mack Schwitzing, and Angel Young.

Performances will be held on March 6th, 7th, and 8th at 7 p.m., and on March 9th at 2 p.m. in the AWC Theatre. Cost for the event is $5 at the door (cash only) or free with an AWC student ID. A Yuma campus map can be found here.

Recommended for those at least 14 years of age.
