This program provides an introduction to air conditioning and refrigeration, covering essential tools, materials, and system components. Emphasis is placed on understanding the relationship and function of each part within HVAC systems. The advanced portion delves into various refrigerants, metering devices, and sealed systems, along with theory, installation practices, and service procedures for hermetic and semi-hermetic systems, including compressor replacement. Ample hands-on experience reinforces these skills.
Program Purpose
This certificate will provide graduates with the basic knowledge in air conditioning and refrigeration to enable them to obtain an entry level position in the field.
Learning Outcomes
- Discuss the history of air conditioning and refrigeration and describe the various types of HVAC systems in use today.
- Demonstrate the proper use of HVAC tools and equipment, including basic silver brazing and installation practices.
- Explain the operation of a basic refrigeration cycle and the function of individual HVAC components, including metering devices and compressors.
- Demonstrate a basic understanding of refrigerants, the purpose of a sealed system, and the purpose and function of different metering devices.
- Diagnose and address problems within HVAC systems, focusing on metering devices, sealed systems, and the steps required to complete a compressor change-up.
