Seventh graders to take “First-Generation Steps” toward college

Yuma, AZ (October 30, 2019) – Arizona Western College is inviting seventh-grade students in the Talent Search program to visit campus Wednesday, Nov. 6, as part of a First-Generation Steps event.

From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., students will have an opportunity to explore careers and learn about pursuing higher education.  The event will begin in the South Wing of the Schoening Conference Center at the AWC Yuma Campus, 2020 S. Ave 8E.

First-Generation Steps is held in collaboration with the 3rd Annual First-Generation Celebration, which students will also have an opportunity to participate in.

Talent Search is a federally funded grant program through the U.S. Department of Education. It’s designed to help students graduate from high school and continue on to college, ultimately earning a post-secondary degree. Eligible students are potential first-generation college students, and/or low income.
