National Cesar E. Chavez Blood Drive at AWC


The National Cesar E. Chavez Blood Drive Challenge Celebrates Cesar E. Chavez’s legacy as an American civic leader by engaging college students in community service, healthy living, and saving lives. The blood drive is an annual Blood Drive Challenge organized by the AWC College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP), and is held at community colleges and universities throughout the United States. The blood drive will take place in the Schoening Conference Center on Monday, March 20th from 10 am to 2pm and March 21st from 10am to 2pm.

AWC Jazz Festival on March 23


Guest Artist Janet Hammer to give Jazz Master Class & Performance

Yuma, AZ (March 15, 2017)-The Arizona Western College Jazz Festival will be part of the Village Jazz Series. The performance is on Thursday, March 23 from 6:00-8:00 pm at the Yuma Palms Mall.  The guest artist is renowned jazz vocalist Janet Hammer from San Diego. 

As a prelude to the concert, Hammer will give a Jazz Master Class in MU 102 (AWC Music Building) from 4:00-6:00 pm on Wednesday, March 22.  She will also be rehearsing and working with the AWC Chamber Singers in MU 102 on March 23 at 12:15 pm.

AWC Somerton Educational Family Night on March 22


Come out for food, fun, and college information

Arizona Western College’s Somerton Educational Family Night will be on Wednesday, March 22nd from 4:30 pm to 7:30 pm at the AWC Somerton Center/Somerton Middle School. 

Everyone is invited to this free event to experience local schools’ talents including dance, musical performances, and academic displays. This is a great way to spend an enjoyable afternoon with family, while also having fun and learning from community organizations and educational programs.

Susanna Zambrano Named Next Associate Dean for South Yuma County Services


Yuma, AZ (March 7, 2017)-Arizona Western College is pleased to announce that Susanna Zambrano has been named the next Associate Dean for South County Services.

 

Susanna Zambrano said, “I am honored to serve the students of South Yuma County is this new capacity and feel confident in the skills and experience that I have obtained at AWC in multiple roles, including teaching, student services, and administration. The next few years will be filled with growth and community involvement; I’m excited to be a part of it.”

AWC Hosts 2017 Transfer Week

Yuma, AZ (February 21, 2017) - Arizona Western College will be hosting the 2017 Transfer Week March 6th through March 9th.  During this week, students will explore great transfer opportunities. Each day one of the Arizona universities will be featured and the activities will end with the annual Transfer Fairs at different Arizona Western College locations.

AWC’s Writer’s Harvest: Feeding Body and Mind


Alberto Ríos, Arizona Poet Laureate to Visit Campus

Yuma, AZ (February 23, 2017) –The Creative Writing School of Arizona Western College will be presenting “Writer’s Harvest” on Wednesday, March 1st at 6:30pm in the AWC Theater.  The event will include a silent auction and a poetry reading by Alberto Alvaro Ríos, Poet Laureate of Arizona and National Book Award Finalist. All proceeds from the auction will benefit the Yuma Community Food Bank.
