AWC Communications & Marketing Win National Awards


Two AWC departments brought home national awards last month, recognizing innovative efforts to communicate the benefits of higher education in Yuma and La Paz Counties, and to keep students connected to their goals.

Members of the AWC College Publications and Marketing & Public Relations teams were honored in two categories at the 2016 National Council of Marketing & Public Relations (NCMPR) Paragon Awards, including a Best in the Nation (Gold Paragon).

Prestigious Math Awards to Be Presented During April 26 Ceremony


The Mathematics Division of Arizona Western College cordially invites you to a celebration of learning and achievement as we honor the 2016-2017 participants and winners of the American Mathematical Association of Two-Year College's (AMAYT) Student Mathematics League Competition. The celebration will take place on Wednesday, April 26 at 12:00 p.m. in the EB building lobby on the Yuma Campus.

The AWC SML team placed 5th in the Southwest region and 2nd in Arizona.  AWC student Khang Pham had the 9th highest score in the region and the 3rd highest score in Arizona.

Art Garden Performance: Poetry Reading and Open Mic on April 19


Come join Arizona Western College for their Art Garden Performance on Wednesday, April 19th from 1:40pm to 3:00pm in the courtyard area between CTE and the Student Success Center on the Yuma Campus.  This week’s Art Garden Performance presents Poetry Reading and Open Mic that will be hosted by Professor Eric Lee and Professor Martha Martinez. AWC Staff, students, and the community are all invited to participate.  Please feel free to bring a late lunch.

10th Annual AWC Sustainability Fair on April 13

The 10th Annual Arizona Western College Sustainability Fair will be held on Thursday, April 13 from 9 am to 1 pm on the Yuma Campus in the courtyard by the fountain.

The general public and AWC community are invited to stop by to learn various ways to help promote a sustainable environment for future generations. There will be booths, demonstrations, music, food vendors and much more.

Student Monitors Vampire Bats Through USDA-APHIS Internship

Dr. Cecilia Vigil, Professor of Biology, recently attended a workshop involving Vampire Bats in Campeche, Mexico.  Scientists from Mexico and the US participated in the workshop and much was learned that will be shared with students and colleagues. This opportunity came about through Arizona Western College’s USDA-ACIS grant funded by USDA-NIFA, where together an internship is collaboratively supported for one student a year to work in Yuma monitoring the presence of Vampire Bats in Yuma.

Join AWC for Art Garden Performance Featuring Ballroom Dancing

Come join Arizona Western College for an Art Garden Performance on Thursday, March 23rd at 2pm in the courtyard area between The Center for Teaching Effectiveness (CTE) and the Student Success Center on the Yuma Campus.  This week’s featured performance is a Ballroom Dancing Class with instructor Ilona Luna and will be 15 minutes long.

Dual Enrolled Student to Graduate from High School and College in May 2017


Jose Carlos Macias is graduating with a 3.9 GPA from Yuma Catholic High School (YCHS) and receiving his Associates in Arts degree from Arizona Western College (AWC) at the same time.  Macias was also named the Yuma Catholic High School 2017 Graduation Speaker.  Jose took advantage of the dual enrollment partnership offered by AWC and YCHS to help accomplish this goal.

AWC Foundation Is Proud to Participate in Arizona Gives Day, April 4, 2017


AWC Foundation will be joining Arizona Gives Day, along with hundreds of other nonprofits from all over the state on Tuesday, April 4, to raise much-needed funds. Through azgives.org, Arizonans will be able to support their favorite nonprofit(s) for exactly 24 hours of virtual giving to strive for additional cash incentive prizes. Sponsored by FirstBank, this 5th annual day of fundraising is a community-led effort to invest in our state.
