SLLC Gallery to display “Printmaking in Times of Anxiety” exhibition
February 5, 2019San Luis, AZ (February 5, 2019) – Mark your calendars for an upcoming gallery exhibition featuring the creative works of Ralph Steeds, renowned printmaking artist and Professor Emeritus at the University of North Carolina-Pembroke.
The “Printmaking in Times of Anxiety” exhibition is free and open to the public. People can stop by and see the lithographic and relief prints on display from Monday, Feb. 11, until Friday, March 8, at the Arizona Western College San Luis Learning Center, 1340 N. 8th Avenue, San Luis, Ariz. The gallery is open Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Since 1980, Steeds has been included in over 200 national, international, and regional exhibitions. In addition to locations all around the U.S., Steeds has also had his work featured in museum, corporation, and private collections in the Netherlands, Bulgaria, Korea, Brazil, Japan, and England.
Steeds said it’s difficult to predict what the results will be when he produces his prints, but he enjoys the journey to create the finished product.
“The signs and symbols I have used in my work for many years have become my artistic vocabulary. By using this visual language, I hope to develop a dialogue that will pass back and forth between the viewer, the work, and myself. Mixing metaphors and paradoxes, I wish for magic and always hope to produce more than decoration,” he said.
Steeds owns and operates his own professional printmaking shop in Red Springs, North Carolina. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Education from the University of Central Oklahoma in 1966 and his Masters of Fine Arts degree in Printmaking and Painting from the University of Oklahoma in 1973.
