leadHERship workshop to focus on developing a growth mindset

May 8, 2024

San Luis, AZ (May 8, 2024) – The leadHERship initiative at Arizona Western College continues its commitment to gender equality and empowerment with its final workshop of the semester. Following the resounding success of the previous four workshops, leadHERship remains dedicated to cultivating an inclusive campus culture.

Selected as one of the 10 proposals funded by the 2024 AWC Innovation Fund, leadHERship has been at the forefront of fostering women empowerment and gender equality within the community. The initiative, spearheaded by Dr. Sara Amani, Professor of Multilingual Composition/Specialist; Maria Guzman, Advising and Student Services Coordinator; and Susie Zambrano, Associate Dean for South Yuma County Services, received $20,000 to implement the program.

Upcoming Workshop - "Obstacles as Opportunities: Developing a Growth Mindset for Success"

During the next leadHERship workshop scheduled for May 13, AWC Professor of English Dr. Ellen Riek will help attendees explore how to cultivate a self-perspective that views challenges as opportunities for future growth.

“In this hands-on workshop participants will discuss the impact of shifting from a fixed mindset to a growth mindset, identify the steps to help make that shift, and engage in two creative activities that draw on traditional wisdom and practices to help us honor our past and become women who value struggles as integral to our success,” said Dr. Riek.
