Law Enforcement Training Academy graduates largest class of cadets
March 10, 2022Class moving on to careers at nine agencies across Arizona
Yuma, AZ (March 10, 2022) – Arizona Western College recently graduated its largest class of Law Enforcement Training Academy cadets since the full-time program began in 2019.
A total of 23 students graduated on Feb. 24, and have now successfully moved on to begin their law enforcement careers at nine different agencies around the state.
"This full-time academy is the result of great partnerships that have been developed between the college and our law enforcement agencies. This class marks the growth and progress of our group collaboration,” said Alfonso Zavala, Law Enforcement Training Academy Director.
The graduates will go on to work at the Colorado River Indian Tribes Police Department, Flagstaff Police Department, Kingman Police Department, Quartzsite Police Department, San Luis Police Department, Somerton Police Department, Wellton Police Department, Yuma County Sheriff’s Office, and Yuma Police Department.
“Arizona Western College is steadfast in our support of local law enforcement agencies,” said AWC President Dr. Daniel Corr. “We are simply thrilled that our Law Enforcement Training Academy has graduated its largest class ever. We look forward to the continued growth of this high-caliber program.”
Three students were recognized during the graduation ceremony with special honors. Cynthia Andrade (San Luis Police Department) achieved the highest average score on the Arizona Post functional areas and comprehensive final exam, Cesar Meza-Berrelleza (Wellton Police Department) received the highest average score on the Peace Officers Physical Aptitude Test (POPAT), and Daniel Young (Flagstaff Police Department) earned the highest average score on the Arizona Post daytime and nighttime firearm qualification courses.
