Course seeking English speakers looking to learn more Spanish

January 31, 2019

Conversation Exchange/Intercambio late-start class to begin Feb. 12

Yuma, AZ (January 31, 2019) – Arizona Western College is offering a late-start Conversation Exchange/Intercambio course for English and Spanish speakers interested in learning each other’s language.

English as a Second Language (ESL) Professor Nancy Blitz shared that additional English speakers with a Spanish level equivalent to Spanish 101 are being sought for the class.

The course provides an informal setting for 12 English speakers with some experience learning Spanish and 12 Spanish speakers who have completed at least an ESL Level 1 course to meet for 75 minutes a week to work on learning the other’s native language. A different topic will be the focus of conversation each week as enrolled students pair up and help each other with pronunciation, vocabulary, and grammar through answering questions, playing games, and doing other activities that promote fluency.

The class requires no textbooks – only a desire to learn more Spanish (and English for ESL students). Students are graded based on their attendance and participation.

The 1-credit course will be held on Tuesdays from Feb. 12 until May 7, at 1:40 to 2:55 p.m. in room LA 107 at the AWC Yuma Campus, 2020 S. Ave. 8E.
