AWC students to hold "Third Multilingual Expo" at San Luis Learning Center

October 3, 2022

San Luis, AZ (October 3, 2022) – First-Year English Composition students from the Arizona Western College San Luis Learning Center (SLLC) are inviting the community to join them for the Third Multilingual Student Expo, “Cherishing Unity in Diversity,” on Wednesday, Oct. 12. In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, ENG107 and ENG108 multilingual students will discuss how to cultivate a sense of togetherness coming from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds.

“We want to make intercultural dialogue an important and meaningful reality in our school to highlight the very notions of multiculturalism, mutual respect and cultural humility,” said Dr. Sara Amani, Professor of Multilingual Composition/Specialist. “As college students, they are likely to find themselves in diverse classrooms, student clubs, student expos, and – eventually – workplaces. To be successful in the future, it is necessary for them to engage in discussions and events that help them learn to not only effectively function in those settings but actively contribute to some positive and productive outcomes in diverse contexts.”

During this event, students will showcase their projects that have been completed as a result of active collaboration.

“I am honored and excited to be this year’s Co-MC to help convey the important message of inclusion and unity in diversity by presenting various talents from our community. I encourage everyone to come and experience this beautiful expo that the multilingual students of AWC have prepared for all,” said Camila Borquez, an ENG107 student majoring in Engineering.

Rodolfo Osuna, an ENG108 student and Psychology/Sociology major, added, “As the Co-MC of this expo, I invite everyone, particularly students, to participate in this event so we can come together as one and relate to cultures different from our own by dancing, singing, and sharing our unique stories. I look forward to a fun day full of activities celebrating our different abilities, beliefs, and backgrounds.”

The event will be held from 3:00-4:30 p.m. in Multi-Purpose Room 104 at the SLLC, 1340 N. 8th Avenue, in San Luis, Arizona. The public and members of the media are invited to attend.
