AWC recognized for top LPN program in Arizona
August 31, 2021Yuma, AZ (August 31, 2021) – Arizona Western College’s Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Program was recently ranked as the best in the state by PracticalNursing.org.
The organization of nursing experts analyzed 12 LPN programs from community colleges, technical centers, and private career schools across Arizona. Top rankings were made based on first-time passage rates on the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN) test, which is administered to students by the Arizona State Board of Nursing. After looking at the last five years of data, AWC received the No. 1 spot with an overall score of 100.00. According to an Arizona Board of Nursing report, AWC has maintained a 100 percent pass rate for first-time candidates taking the NCLEX-PN exam since 2012.
“It is an honor for our LPN program here at Arizona Western College to be recognized as the number one program in Arizona,” said Cinthia Alvarez, Director of Nursing at AWC. “We have faculty and staff that do an amazing job at preparing our students throughout the program. It is great to be part of a team that provides LPN students the tools that they need to be successful in their careers."
The AWC Nursing Program prepares students to earn a two-year Associate of Applied Science degree in Nursing. After students complete their first three semesters in the program, they have the option of taking the LPN exam and exiting the program or continuing to complete their last semester of nursing school to be eligible to test for a Registered Nurse (RN) License. Learning experiences include classroom, lab, clinical, and online settings as well as computer interactive learning and simulation.
“During a time when there is a shortage of nurses nationwide, Arizona Western College’s Nursing Program is continuing to build up a knowledgeable and qualified workforce of nurses to help fill the gaps,” said Reetika Dhawan, AWC Vice President of Workforce Development & CTE.
More information about AWC’s Nursing Program can be found here. Completing the full program can lead to eligibility for entrance into a baccalaureate degree program in Nursing. The program also includes opportunities to become a Certified or Licensed Nursing Assistant (CNA, LNA).
The AWC Nursing Program has been approved by the Arizona State Board of Nursing and is also accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing.
