Yuma, AZ (December 19, 2019) – Arizona Western College has been named as a 2020 Planning, Governance & Finance finalist for the prestigious Bellwether Awards.
AWC will present along with nine other finalists in this category, and 20 other finalists in two other categories, Workforce Development and Instructional Programs, during the 26th annual awards and Community Colleges Futures Forum in San Antonio, Texas. Three other Arizona colleges have been similarly recognized, including Central Arizona College, South Mountain Community College, and Pima Community College.
AWC’s project entitled Strategic Planning: Creating a College-Going Culture for First Generation Students focuses on work the college district initiated to serve the more than 60% of the student body who identify as first in their family to attend college. Programs like $25 Early College Tuition, Guided Pathways, Open Educational Resources (low-cost and free course materials) and Yuma and La Paz Promise all serve the special population that reside in Yuma and La Paz Counties.
The Bellwether Award is highly regarded because projects are adjudicated by a panel of national experts and academicians. This year, the Bellwether Award is sponsored by the Alamo Colleges District in San Antonio, Texas.
