AWC to host third-annual Legislative Town Hall on Oct. 1

September 24, 2024

Yuma, AZ (September 24, 2024) – Arizona Western College is proud to host Yuma County’s state elected officials at a public Town Hall where they will review the impact of the 2024 Legislative Session.

The Town Hall, which takes place on October 1st, will highlight recent accomplishments and changes in legislation affecting the Yuma community. “As a community-driven institution, Arizona Western College is honored to provide a platform for meaningful dialogue between our state legislators and the local community,” said AWC President Dr. Daniel Corr. “This Town Hall is an invaluable opportunity for our community to engage directly with their elected officials, ensuring that our shared priorities—such as education and economic growth—remain at the forefront of legislative action.”

Participating in the panel discussion hosted by Dr. Corr are Yuma County’s six legislators: Sen. Brian Fernandez, Rep. Mariana Sandoval, Rep. Michele Peña, Sen. Sine Kerr, Rep. Tim Dunn, and Rep. Michael Carbone

“Town Hall events allow our legislators to meet directly with members of the community and update them on the past legislative session,” commented Rep. Sandoval (D-LD23). “I am eager to share both the successes made for Yuma County and our priorities as we look toward future years. Our time in the Capitol has been devoted to representing the needs of the community, and events like this help make that possible.”

Panelists will address their strategies to pass the FY2025 state budget despite an increasingly challenging financial year, in addition to key issues affecting the Yuma community.

"Water, education, border security, public safety, affordable housing, workforce, and economic development are the top interests that I hear from members of our community,” Rep. Dunn (R-LD25) said. “I am thankful for the opportunity this upcoming Town Hall provides to discuss these issues more in depth with constituents and I strongly encourage the public to attend the event."

The event will be held on Tuesday, October 1 from 2:00-3:30pm at the Schoening Conference Center in the 3C Building of the AWC Yuma Campus, 2020 S. Ave. 8E. A campus map can be found here.

While the event is free and open to the public, space is limited. Individuals interested in attending can reserve their seat at this link

In addition to the public event, a private student roundtable conversation with legislators will be held prior to the event.
