AWC Foundation seeks support for students during Giving Tuesday

December 2, 2024

Yuma, AZ (December 3, 2024) – This holiday season, the Arizona Western College Foundation is asking regional residents to help create thriving communities by giving the gift of education during the Foundation’s Giving Tuesday campaign.

This past year, the Foundation provided over $16,000 in emergency support, also known as Gold Heart funds, to students facing urgent challenges that would prevent them from completing their classes.

“Our students are profoundly impacted by poverty and the Foundation exists to help them with scholarships, but also to navigate those rough patches that can really derail their academic journey,” said Lorraine Stofft, Vice President for Advancement and Executive Director to the AWC Foundation.

Giving is simple: follow this link to pay online or send a check payable to the AWC Foundation (memo: Giving Tuesday).

Here’s how your gift can help:
•    $50 provides 5 meals at the Eatery on campus
•    $75 can pay tuition for a high school student to take a college class
•    $100 covers the cost of rent for a loaner laptop and calculator
•    $250 provides a student with the tools they need to succeed, like textbooks, course supplies or housing assistance

“In the past year, faculty and staff have recommended dozens of students to us for support for a wide range of needs, from transportation and medical emergencies to housing and food insecurity. Each gift helps a student stay in school,” said Laura Knaresboro, AWC Foundation Chief Operating Officer.

The AWC Foundation is dedicated to removing financial barriers to higher education for students in Yuma and La Paz Counties.
