AWC Foundation seeking nominations for Hall of Fame

February 16, 2023

Save the date: Schoolhouse Soiree to be held October 6

Yuma, AZ (February 16, 2023) – Nominations are now being sought for the Arizona Western College Hall of Fame.

Established in 2011, the AWC Hall of Fame honors alumni, former students, faculty, and community leaders from Yuma and La Paz counties who have made a significant contribution to the mission and goals of the college or, as former students, have distinguished themselves in service to the larger world. The AWC Hall of Fame currently has a total of 27 honorees, including 2022 inductees Jim Mitchell, Russ Jones, and Janet Jones.

Nominations will be accepted in four categories:
•    Student (eligible after 3 years of separation from AWC)
•    Faculty or Staff (eligible 3 years after separation or after 10 years of active service)
•    Teams (academic or athletic teams who win a state or national championship)
•    Community Member (eligible after three years of distinguished support or service to AWC)

The nomination window will remain open until Friday, March 17. Visit foundation.azwestern.edu/hall-of-fame to submit a nomination.

The AWC Foundation will recognize the honorees during their Schoolhouse Soiree scheduled for Friday, October 6. Last year’s inaugural celebration merged two longtime AWC Foundation events, the Hall of Fame and the Celebration of Scholars, to commemorate Yuma and La Paz community members who make a difference in education, generous donors, and students who have earned scholarships. The AWC Foundation raised close to $42,000 during the event to establish the Gold Heart Endowment for scholarships.
