Materials Processes in Manufacturing
CERT - Occupational Certificate
Students will complete required courses for OSHA safety, welding, quality control, inspection, materials science in preparation for the capstone course where students along with their faculty will identify and complete a experiential and research driven study of materials processes in manufacturing. The student will organize a capstone portfolio of student learning outcomes and present it as a requirement of the two hundred level course.
Program Purpose
To provide students a course of study leading to a capstone experience two hundred level course related to “ Materials Processes in Manufacturing”. The new certificate represents an opportunity for studies inclusive of a number of core manufacturing courses, while providing opportunity for students to pursue manufacturing materials and process applications outside of becoming a maintenance technician or CNC operator.
Learning Outcomes
- Students will demonstrate ability to communicate ideas and information regarding manufacturing materials processes both written and oral.
- Students will demonstrate critical thinking and understanding of materials thermal conditioning processes as part of an experiential learning project to include safe practices for materials handling to recommended industry standards.
- Student will demonstrate use of equipment, tools, inspection technology and quality control procedures in the conditioning of manufacturing materials as part of an experiential learning project(s).
- Student will demonstrate ability to perform quantitative analysis and data mining from a number of course activities to evaluate thermal process applications and make data driven adjustments to the process to achieve the desired results.
- Student will demonstrate ability to use informational technology applications to create documents, spread sheets and use of reporting formats to prepare and distribute thermal processes and other experiential learning outcomes via web portal(s), and related cloud computing for information storage and distribution.
