Program Purpose

Learning Outcomes


  • Master faster reading and a better understanding of longer academic texts (~700 words)
  • Improve your comprehension when listening to lectures and announcements
  • Gain more information about communication strategies when talking to a classmate or professor
  • Enhance your speaking ability to explain information from listening and reading
  • Advance your essay writing skills
  • Learn test-taking strategies for each section of the test (i.e., Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing)
  • Learn more about how TOEFL iBT is structured and scored

Additional Information


We offer a variety of classes for different levels of English. Classes are small, and you will be able to take them at various locations convenient for you.

We offer four levels of classes in different English content areas:

  1. Listening and speaking: You will learn and improve your English comprehension, and you will practice speaking in other social settings.
  2. Reading and writing: You will learn writing and reading comprehension techniques.
  3. Grammar: You will learn grammar rules and apply them to your everyday life and academic settings.

Don’t worry!

We will do everything in our reach to make sure tuition is affordable; in addition, Federal Financial Aid is available to those who qualify.

But… Where do I start?

First, you need to complete an admissions application. The application can be completed online, at the Yuma Campus, at the San Luis Learning Center, the Somerton Learning Center, or the AWC Downtown Center in Yuma (Near Home Depot).

After you submit the applications, the college will assign you a student identification number. With this number and your official identification card, you will be able to continue in the process.

The next step will be to take a self-guided placement test. This test can be taken online.

Ofrecemos una gran variedad de clases para los diferentes niveles de inglés. Las clases son pequeñas y las podrá tomar en diferentes sitios que sean convenientes para usted.

Ofrecemos 4 niveles de clases en las siguientes áreas del inglés:

  1. Comprensión y expresión oral: Usted aprenderá a mejorar su comprensión del inglés y también practicará su expresión oral en diferentes ambientes sociales.
  2. Lectura y escritura: Usted aprenderá las técnicas de escritura y comprensión de lectura
  3. Grámatica: Usted aprenderá a utilizar las reglas gramaticales y a aplicarlas a su vida diaria y en el ambiente académico.

Nosotros hacemos todo lo posible para que la matrícula esté al alcance de todos, y además, se ofrece ayuda financiera del gobierno a aquellos alumnos que califiquen.

Pero... ¿y dónde comienzo?

Primero, se necesita llenar una solicitud de ingreso (Application for Admission). Esto se puede hacer en línea, el campus de Yuma (Yuma campus), en el centro de AWC en San Luis, el centro de AWC en Somerton, o en AWC centro de carreras (AWC Downtown Center) en Yuma (cerca de Home Depot).
