Yuma, AZ (June 28, 2017)-The Arizona Western College SkillsUSA Student Chapter just returned from the 53rd annual National Leadership and Skills Conference (NLSC), a showcase of career and technical education students, in Louisville, KY from June 19-23, 2017. The students represented Arizona and AWC at the post-secondary level and competed nationally in their respective contest areas all week long.
Yuma, AZ (June 28, 2017)-The Arizona State Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASSRT) Annual Meeting was held on June 9th and 10th in Tucson, AZ. Arizona Western College 1st year and 2nd year Radiologic Technology students participated in the Scientific Poster Exhibit Competition at the Annual Meeting and came home as winners.

Yuma, AZ (June 20, 2017) - Arizona Western College will be hosting CTE Summer Engineering Camp for ages 13-18. The camp takes place on July 24-28 from 9am to 12pm each day on the Yuma Campus in the Engineering Building. The cost is just $50, which covers all 5 days of the camp. Space is limited and the deadline to register is Monday, July 17 before 4pm. Yuma, AZ (June 6, 2017)-Victoria Holas, Director of Radiologic Technology Program at Arizona Western College, was selected to represent Arizona as a delegate to attend the 2017 American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT) Annual Governance and House of Delegates meeting in Orlando, Florida from June 22-25. Also, Cynthia LaMothe, first year Radiologic Technology student, was chosen to represent Arizona at the 2017 Student Leadership Development Program in Orlando.
Yuma, AZ (June 5, 2017)—On May 12th, General Motors Desert Proving Grounds presented the Arizona Western College Foundation with a $5000 donation that is funded through the GM Foundation Plant City Grant. The Edgar Mendoza GM Foundation Scholarship was established in 2014 in memory of former GM employee Edgar Mendoza and the scholarship will be awarded to three students in the AWC Automotive Technology program.
Yuma, AZ (June 5, 2017) –Brittany Twenter, Arizona Western College student, started the Desert Southwest Nonfiction Creative Writing Society with the sole purpose of bringing the community together to share their life stories in a creative fashion. So far, the community group is comprised of students and faculty at AWC, but the hope is that they can pull in people from all walks of life who are interested in writing. The group will meet every other Saturday starting the first weekend of June.
Yuma, AZ (June 1, 2017)-Dr. Jennifer Bloom, the creator of “Appreciative Advising” will be presenting a three hour training to a joint group of advisors from Arizona Western College and Northern Arizona University-Yuma on Thursday, June 8th from 9am to 12pm in the Francis Morris Board Room on the Yuma Campus. This training is being sponsored by Partners Advancing Completion through Transfer Opportunities (PACTO), which is a collaboration between AWC and NAU-Yuma to create a seamless transfer pathway and improve academic success at both institutions.
The General Education Curriculum Committee held their 9th Annual Student Showcase at Arizona Western College on May 10, 2017. Over seventy-five students participated and shared projects ranging from scientific posters, modern language presentations, business models, informational websites, dramatic readings, and mechanical projects, including a six-foot tall trebuchet!
AWC Continuing Education and Yuma High School have partnered to bring back the AWC Youth Choir Summer Camp. The Camp will be from June 13 to June 23 from 6:00pm to 7:00pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Youth must be entering 3rd grade or higher to participate. All rehearsals will be held in the Yuma High School Choir Room and the end of camp concert will be at Snider Auditorium on June 23rd.
