Music Department to present St. Patrick’s Day concert


Yuma, AZ (February 27, 2020) – The Arizona Western College String Ensemble and Chamber Choir will be performing a St. Patrick’s Day concert to celebrate the rich heritage of Celtic music.

The concert will be held on Sunday, March 15, at 5 p.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 1550 S. 14th Ave. The performance will feature a variety of musical styles ranging from fast paced fiddling to beautiful slow airs.

The community is invited to attend this free event. Donations will be accepted to benefit AWC Music Department student scholarships.

AWC Transfer Week starts March 9


From Matador to Wildcat, Lumberjack, and Sun Devil

Yuma, AZ (February 26, 2020) – Arizona Western College will be hosting 2020 Transfer Week from March 9-12. During this week, students will have a chance to explore a variety of different transfer opportunities. Each day, one of the Arizona universities will be featured and a Transfer and Career Expo will also be held to provide students with the option of networking with employees and organizations for degree paths offered at participating universities.

Ave. 8E. The expo will specifically focus on health, industrial trades, public safety, and STEM opportunities for current and prospective students.

AWC campus community mourns loss of long-time student


Yuma, AZ (February 20, 2020) – The Arizona Western College community is grieving the loss of long-time student Juanita Casas, who passed away on Wednesday afternoon following a medical emergency on campus.

“This is a time of great sorrow for our campus community,” said AWC President Dr. Daniel Corr. “I join the entire AWC community in extending our sincerest condolences to Juanita’s family, friends, and all who knew her, during this difficult time. Please keep her family in your thoughts. Juanita will truly be missed.”

Transfer & Career Expo to be held at Parker Learning Center


Parker, AZ (February 20, 2020) – Arizona Western College will be holding a Transfer & Career Expo on Thursday, Feb. 27, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Parker Learning Center, 1109 S. Geronimo Ave. The public is invited to attend this event.

QPR Suicide Awareness & Prevention Training to be held in Parker & Yuma


Yuma, AZ (February 20, 2020) – Community members have two opportunities to attend a QPR Suicide Awareness and Prevention Training this semester.

Arizona Western College’s Health and Wellness Department will be hosting the first training on Wednesday, Feb. 26, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Parker Learning Center, 1109 S. Geronimo Ave., and the next training will be on Wednesday, April 15, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Frances Morris Boardroom located in the 3C Building of the Yuma Campus, 2020 S. Ave. 8E.

Funds from Iceberg Drop celebration donated to AWC Agricultural Science


Yuma, AZ (February 19, 2020) – Visit Yuma recently presented a check for $1,000 to the Arizona Western College Agricultural Science Department. The funds were raised during Visit Yuma’s Iceberg Drop celebration, which was held on Main Street on New Year’s Eve.

“Visit Yuma looks for opportunities to give back to the community in meaningful ways. We know that our sponsors appreciate that a portion of the proceeds from the Iceberg Drop goes to support agriculture education,” said Linda Morgan, Executive Director of Visit Yuma.

Noted nature writer to speak on campus


AWC Honors Program hosts presentation on the historical, cultural importance of the Gila River

Yuma, AZ (February 14, 2020) – Gregory McNamee claims Arizona as his home, but he is a writer with an international reputation. And this month he’s coming to a classroom near you.

The AWC Honors Program will be hosting McNamee’s presentation, courtesy of the popular Arizona Humanities Council program AZ Speaks, titled “The Gila, River of History.” The event will take place on Thursday, Feb. 27, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. in LR 104, across the hall from the Honors Center.

Law Enforcement Training Academy to graduate cadets from across Arizona


Low tuition costs helping Arizona Western College expand reach to agencies statewide

Yuma, AZ (February 14, 2020) – When Arizona Western College started its new full-time Law Enforcement Training Academy (LETA) last year, the hope was that it would be utilized by both local and out-of-town agencies.
