AWC selects four students for All-Arizona Academic Team


Yuma, AZ (March 7, 2019) – Four high-achieving students from Arizona Western College were recently honored at the All-Arizona Academic Team Recognition Ceremony at the East Valley Institute of Technology in Mesa, Arizona.   

This annual awards ceremony is held by the Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society to recognize students chosen by their colleges for high academic distinction as well as for leadership and service to the community. To qualify, each student must be working toward an associate degree and maintain a GPA of 3.5 or higher.

Pep Band performing open-air concert


Yuma, AZ (March 6, 2019) – The community is invited to Arizona Western College for a free, open-air Pep Band concert on Thursday, March 14, from 3:15 to 4:15 p.m. 

Students will be performing the afternoon concert on the covered patio of the 3C Building near the AWC Yuma Campus Starbucks, 2020 S. Ave. 8E.

AWC Community Band holding Spring Concert: Dragons, Steamboats, & Horned Helmets


Yuma, AZ (March 5, 2019) – The Arizona Western College Community Band will present its spring concert on Monday, March 11. The concert’s title is “Dragons, Steamboats, and Horned Helmets.” It features the music of Richard Wagner, as well as descriptive compositions by other composers.

The performance will begin at 7 p.m. at Mary Elizabeth Post Auditorium, 400 W. 5th St.

The concert is free and open to the public.

Financial Resources Night to be held March 13


Yuma, AZ (March 5, 2019) – Arizona Western College invites the public to attend Financial Resources Night on Wednesday, March 13.

Attendees will have the opportunity to talk with various financial resource offices about their services to help fund education and get on track with their financial health. Participants who visit at least five booths will be entered in a drawing for $50 gift cards.

Join AWC Civic Orchestra for Billy and the Hillbillies


Yuma, AZ (March 4, 2019) – The Arizona Western College Civic Orchestra will be presenting Billy and the Hillbillies at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 9, at the Historic Yuma Theater, 254 S. Main St.

Back by popular demand, Billy and the Hillbillies is a celebration not only of the peaceful coexistence, but the blissful union of classical and bluegrass music. “Classgrass” is concertos and breakdowns, symphonies and hoedowns, all combined to create an evening of hilarious good fun.

Full-time Law Enforcement Training Academy to be offered in March


Yuma, AZ (February 28, 2019) – When local law enforcement agencies reached out and asked for a full-time option to train incoming cadets, Arizona Western College worked with the City of Yuma and Yuma County to make that request a reality.

AWC will start offering a full-time Law Enforcement Training Academy housed at the Ray Croc Sports Complex, 1280 W. Desert Sun Drive, beginning March 25.

AWC Music Department presents “Singing with the Masters”


Yuma, AZ (February 27, 2019) – The Arizona Western College Chamber Singers and Yuma Chorale will be performing two upcoming “Singing with the Masters” concerts, featuring selections from various genres including classical, gospel, spirituals, and folk songs.

There will be songs for everyone to enjoy at the concerts as they are from a number of well-known composers and arrangers of choral music.

AWC hosts annual Student Etiquette Luncheon


Yuma, AZ (February 26, 2019) – Arizona Western College is hosting a Student Etiquette Luncheon on Friday, March 8, from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the South Schoening Conference Center at the AWC Yuma Campus, 2020 S. Ave 8E.

The luncheon introduces students to a professional dining experience while teaching them about important business etiquette principles. This is accomplished in a setting that provides students the opportunity to network with area community leaders.

Veteran Network Ally Training to be held at AWC


Yuma, AZ (February 26, 2019) – Arizona Western College’s Department of Diversity, Inclusion, and AccessABILITY is hosting an upcoming Veteran Network Ally Training for the campus and community to attend.

The Veteran Network Ally program was developed at California State University Long Beach as a faculty and staff awareness program designed to educate members of the university community about the military, foster a supportive campus atmosphere, and establish a network of visible allies for veterans.
