Professor Monica Ketchum to be honored with Distinguished Artist award


Yuma, AZ (January 16, 2020) – Arizona Western College Professor of History Monica Ketchum will be recognized as a Distinguished Artist by the Calexico Arts Council on Saturday, Jan. 18.

Ketchum will be honored during the Leaf Unveiling Program from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Carmen Durazo Cultural Arts Center, 421 Heffernan Ave., in Calexico, California. The ceremony will be accompanied by an exhibition of her work. Her pieces will remain on display for public viewing from Jan. 21-23. The gallery will be open to the public from 4 to 7 p.m. each day.

AWC to hold ribbon cutting for Rosemary’s Kitchen for International Students


Yuma, AZ (January 16, 2020) – International students at Arizona Western College now have the opportunity to utilize the culinary kitchen to prepare a meal from their home country through a new partnership with the Career and Technical Education Culinary Arts program.

Since cooking is not allowed in the residence halls, Rosemary Harrison spoke during the Horizon Symposium in November to bring forward the idea of having a space available for international students to get a sense of home through their cooking.

Yuma County Public Health Services District to hold emergency response training at AWC


Educational institutions from Yuma County and Mexico to participate in pandemic tabletop exercise

Yuma, AZ (January 15, 2020) – Educational institutions from around Yuma County and Mexico will be taking part in an emergency response training at Arizona Western College on Friday, Jan. 24.

The Yuma County Public Health Services District will be working with Yuma Regional Medical Center and the Yuma Fire Department to offer a tabletop exercise on how regional agencies and educational institutions would respond in the event of a pandemic scenario.

Associate Dean for La Paz County to hold Tea Time with students


Parker, AZ (January 15, 2020) – Arizona Western College Associate Dean for La Paz County Katheline Ocampo is offering up some upcoming opportunities for students to meet and talk with her about their academic journey over tea and lunch.

Tea Time with the Associate Dean will be held in room 112 at the AWC Parker Learning Center from 12 to 1 p.m. on Jan. 28, Feb. 18, March 24, and April 28.  Ocampo will be providing lunch and tea for up to five students per time slot, allowing them an open space to talk with her about their education.

Painting exhibition showcasing student work at San Luis Learning Center


San Luis, AZ (January 9, 2020) – Paintings created by Arizona Western College students during the fall semester are currently on display at the San Luis Learning Center (SLLC), 1340 N. 8th Avenue, San Luis, Ariz.

The community is invited to stop by and view the Student Painting Exhibition, which will be available until Friday, Jan. 31, at no cost to the public. Hours for the exhibit are Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Multi-Generational Workshops to be held at La Paz campuses


Parker, AZ (January 9, 2020) – Arizona Western College will be holding a Multi-Generational Workshop at the Parker and Quartzsite campuses on Jan. 29.

The workshop will review the values and work/classroom related preferences of different generations. Attendees will learn about the generational differences that may cause conflict in the work/classroom setting. Participants will also learn various strategies to help manage these challenges.
