AWC Presents Distinguished Visiting Writer Series May 9


Dr. Michael Garriga to discuss work, give public reading

Yuma, AZ (April 30, 2018) – The community is invited to the Distinguished Visiting Writer Series on Wednesday, May 9, featuring “The Book of Duels” author Dr. Michael Garriga.
The series will begin with Garriga discussing his work, fiction, and craft from 1:40 to 2:55 p.m. in room BA 111 of the AWC Yuma Campus. He will also give a public reading of his work at 6:30 p.m. at the AWC Theater.

Both events are free and open to the public.

AWC Library Launches Mobile Mini-Makerspace


Monday Open House introduces public to technology tools    

Yuma, AZ (April 26, 2018) – The AWC Academic Library is looking to the future with the opening of its Mobile Mini-Makerspace, a collaborative space designed to stimulate creative problem solving, hands-on learning and exploration.

The AWC Library Makerspace will host an open house to introduce the campus community to the new offerings this Monday, April 30 from 10am-noon in the Library located in the Shadle Learning Resources (LR) building in the center of the Yuma campus.

AWC Parker holds Creative Coffee House Open Mic and Artists’ Showcase


Parker, AZ (April 26, 2018) – Creative writing students from Arizona Western College’s Parker and Quartzite Learning Centers will be hosting a Creative Coffee House Open Mic and Artists’ Showcase on Wednesday, May 2. The event is co-sponsored by the Future Leaders of La Paz student organization and will begin at 6 p.m. at the AWC Parker Community Center.

AWC Innovation Fund Committee working with local tribes to increase college-going culture


Yuma, AZ (April 26, 2018) – The Arizona Western College Innovation Fund Committee for Native Indian Student Success has partnered with local tribes to plan three upcoming College Success events to help increase the college-going culture in Yuma and La Paz counties.
The committee has been working in collaboration with tribal leaders and education departments from Cocopah, Quechan, and Colorado River Indian Tribes (CRIT) to put on these events as a way to encourage more students to consider higher education.

AWC Choral Program Presents “Sing Them Over Again To Me”


Yuma, AZ (April 24, 2018) – Join the Arizona Western College choral students as they perform their spring concert, “Sing Them Over Again To Me.”

The concert will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 11, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 1550 S. 14th Ave.

AWC Chamber Singers, AWC Youth Choir, and Yuma Chorale will be featured during the performance.
The event is free and open to the public.

Pet-A-Pup Stress Relief event to be held at AWC as students gear up for finals week


Yuma, AZ (April 23, 2018) – Therapy dogs will be visiting the Arizona Western College Yuma Campus to help alleviate stress as students prepare for final exams.

The Yuma Chapter of Love on a Leash will be volunteering to share their carefree canine companions with students during the Pet-A-Pup Stress Relief event, which will be held at 9 a.m. on Thursday, May 3, in the 3C Breezeway.

In addition to relieving stress, the event will also help raise awareness surrounding the topic of mental health, which is AWC’s health and wellness theme for the month of May.

AWC Music Department Holds Spring Sophomore Recital


Yuma, AZ (April 18, 2018) – The community is invited to come out and attend the 2018 Spring Sophomore Recital highlighting Arizona Western College’s graduating music students.

The recital will take place at 6 p.m. on Friday, April 20, at Gloria De Cristo Lutheran Church, 11273 E. 40th St.
The event is free and open to the public.
