Multilingual Student Expo

Fifth Multilingual Student Expo showcases resilience and triumphs over challenges

March 13, 2024

Guest speaker Dr. Deborah Crusan to share research on Imposter Syndrome

San Luis, AZ (March 13, 2024) – The community is invited to join First-Year English Composition students from the Arizona Western College San Luis Learning Center as they present the Fifth Multilingual Student Expo, themed, “Rising Beyond: Multilingual Triumphs,” on Wednesday, March 20.

This semester, ENG107 and ENG108 multilingual students will celebrate the resilience, triumphs, and unique strengths that come with linguistic diversity. Students will share their own personal journeys, achievements, and the power of overcoming challenges in a multilingual world. Attendees will also have an opportunity to view a gallery of artwork, poems, and movie reviews illustrating triumphs within the community.

Additionally, special guest speaker Dr. Deborah Crusan, Professor of TESOL/Applied Linguistics at Wright State University, will share her research on Imposter Syndrome.

Dr. Sara Amani, Professor of Multilingual Composition/Specialist, encourages participation, and shares her personal insights on imposter syndrome, “When I shared with my students that I, too, have a little imposter syndrome, it surprised them. Despite their perceptions of me as a successful and ambitious professional, these feelings are universal. I hope that by opening up, attendees realize that these negative thoughts are not reality; they are merely illusions created by our minds to bridge the gap between our expectations and reality. It's empowering to not feel alone in such thoughts. Together, we can rise beyond these challenges and embrace the triumphs that define us.”

The event will be held from 3:00-4:30pm in Multi-Purpose Room 104 at the San Luis Learning Center, 1340 N. 8th Avenue, in San Luis, Arizona. The public and members of the media are invited to attend.
