AWC Fine Arts presents “The Radio Active Variety Show”

February 5, 2018

Yuma, AZ (February 5, 2018) – The Fine Arts Department at Arizona Western College is joining forces to present “The Radio Active Variety Show,” in an effort to raise funds for scholarships.

The performances will feature vocal and band music as well as short theatrical sketches and conversations in the style of a 1930’s radio show. This year’s event will celebrate the music of George Gershwin, one of the best known American composers. Gershwin is remembered for his many contributions to popular, Broadway, film and classical music. In 1934, Gershwin even hosted his own radio program called, “Music by Gershwin.”

Attendees will also have an opportunity to visit the AWC Art Gallery to see various works created by students. There will be a photo booth and a sketch artist at the event as well.

The shows will be held at the AWC Theatre on the Yuma Main Campus on Saturday, Feb. 10, at 7:30 p.m. and on Sunday, Feb. 11, at 2:30 p.m.

Ticket prices are $5 for AWC students, $20 for individuals, and $30 for couples. Tickets can be purchased at the door 30 minutes before show time or by contacting the AWC Foundation at (928) 344-1720. People can also visit https://foundation.azwestern.edu/ to purchase tickets online.
