Marine Corps Air Station, Yuma Arizona is located in the Southeast corner of the Yuma City limits. The 13,300 foot runway, a concrete area equal to 37 miles of two-lane highway, makes Yuma the longest concrete runway in the Marine Corps. As the runways are used by private and commercial aircraft, they also make Yuma the longest civilian runways in the country.
Yuma's exceptional flying weather has made the Marine Corps Air Station a major facility in the Corps training program. Exchange, outpatient medical care for dependents and retired military, commissary and special services are available. Yuma Proving Grounds, located 26 miles North on Highway 95, comprises a million acres.
Capabilities of this United States Army proving ground include: prototype combat vehicle and field artillery testing, testing of major modifications of all types of military equipment and hardware, testing of new and improved types of conventional munitions, testing developmental types of Army aircraft and aircraft weapons systems, and joint research testing with the Air Force and Navy of position location via a satellite system.
