QPR Suicide Awareness & Prevention Training to be held in Parker & Yuma
February 20, 2020Yuma, AZ (February 20, 2020) – Community members have two opportunities to attend a QPR Suicide Awareness and Prevention Training this semester.
Arizona Western College’s Health and Wellness Department will be hosting the first training on Wednesday, Feb. 26, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Parker Learning Center, 1109 S. Geronimo Ave., and the next training will be on Wednesday, April 15, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Frances Morris Boardroom located in the 3C Building of the Yuma Campus, 2020 S. Ave. 8E.
The QPR mission is to reduce suicidal behaviors and save lives by providing innovative, practical, and proven suicide prevention training. It is not intended to be a form of counseling or treatment, but instead, a means to offer hope through positive action. QPR stands for Question, Persuade, and Refer - three simple steps anyone can learn to help save a life.
“This is an especially important topic at the college level, as rates of suicide are at an all-time high for young people,” said Health and Wellness Coordinator Christine Rouff. “Quality education empowers people, regardless of background, to make a positive impact and a difference in the life of someone they know.”
The community is invited to attend these free trainings. Those that might be interested in participating may include, but are not limited to, healthcare workers; first responders; friends and family of anyone struggling with mental illness; and people who work with or serve those struggling with mental health issues.
