Celebration of Scholars to now be a spring event


Yuma, AZ (September 13, 2018) – Save the date for Arizona Western College Foundation’s Celebration of Scholars on March 21, 2019. An annual appreciation event typically held in the fall (September), the celebration will now be taking place in the spring.

Celebration of Scholars recognizes the academic achievements of scholarship recipients and the generosity of donors who have made those opportunities possible. Currently, a grand total of $185,000 in scholarships have been awarded during the 2018-2019 academic year.

Funds from communitywide culinary event to benefit scholarships

Yuma, AZ (September 12, 2018) – The Arizona Western College Foundation, AWC Alumni Association and Mexican Consulate in Yuma will be presenting the Taste of Yuma Foodie Fest on Friday, October 5. Taste of Yuma is a collaborative event celebrating the global diversity of foods found in Yuma County.

Test your palate as chefs and commercial vendors from throughout the region share their culinary talents with the community. The event will also feature a beer and wine garden.

AWC offers “one-stop” Career and Major Exploration Day on Sept. 28


Yuma, AZ (September 6, 2018) –  Arizona Western College’s Career and Major Exploration Day will be held on Friday, September 28, for those looking to learn about what degrees, programs, and services the college has to offer.

AWC students and the general public are invited to attend this large, informational event, which runs from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the 3C Building at the AWC Yuma Campus, 2020 S. Avenue 8E.

AWC to University: Associate degree provides employee motivation, pursues baccalaureate


Parker, AZ (August 30, 2018) – If it weren’t for the transfer opportunities offered through Arizona Western College and its partner universities, Berenice Heras wouldn’t be working toward earning a bachelor’s degree right now.

While working as a clerk at the Quartzsite Learning Center, Heras also began taking college classes and earned an associate degree from AWC in 2016. That accomplishment gave her the push she needed to continue her education by pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Justice Studies from Northern Arizona University - Yuma.

Transfer and Career Expos: Explore Your Future


Yuma, AZ (August 30, 2018) – Arizona Western College will be holding five Transfer and Career Expos during Fall 2018 and Spring 2019 semesters.
Learn about what career opportunities are available within your major at AWC. Network with agencies and employers about current and future jobs, internships, and volunteer possibilities. Find out what it takes to transfer to a university. Talk to representatives to figure out what programs you’re interested in – or explore what degrees are offered at each university.

High school students utilize summer break for Early College Experience at AWC


Parker, AZ (August 29, 2018) – Three students from Parker High School took part in the Early College Experience at Arizona Western College by taking a college class over the summer.

Antenor Esquerra, Melati Ocampo, and Gabriela Ocampo received college credit for completing AST-130 (The Planets) taught by Professor Robert Reaves. And they did so at a lower rate, as students who are 17 and under only pay $25 per credit hour in comparison to the $84 per credit hour cost for those 18 and older.

Domestic Violence and Breast Cancer Awareness Walk taking place at AWC


Yuma, AZ (August 20, 2018) – Join the Arizona Western College Health and Wellness Department as they walk out on domestic violence and take steps to support finding a cure for breast cancer during an upcoming event.

The Domestic Violence and Breast Cancer Awareness Walk will be held at 10 a.m. on October 17, in conjunction with October being Domestic Violence Awareness Month as well as Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

AWC Culinary Arts Program Serves Formal Dinners this Fall


Grilled Salmon Dinner Set for September 11 with Others to Follow

Yuma, AZ (August 16, 2018) — The Arizona Western College Culinary Arts Program presents their formal dinner offerings that include an appetizer, soup or salad, a main dish with sides and dessert. The students in the program create the menus and serve the meals. The funds raised are used for the students and their program necessities.
