Arizona Western College’s 2017 Teachers of the Year


This year’s Arizona Western College 2017 Teachers of the Year honorees are Reetika Dhawan, Professor of Mathematics, and Douglas Pearson, Adjunct Faculty of Business.  Both will be recognized at the Yuma County Education Foundation Teacher of the Year banquet at the Yuma Civic and Convention Center on April 25th.

As the Teacher of the Year, one of Reetika’s award responsibilities is to select a student who is a high school senior or a student already attending AWC for a scholarship.

Talent Search & Upward Bound to Host College Life for 10th Graders


Arizona Western College will be hosting College Life for 10th grade Talent Search and Upward Bound students on Wednesday, April 26th in the Schoening Center at 9 am on the Yuma Campus.

Tenth graders from area high schools will play the game of "College LIFE" as they learn

about ways to pay for college and how much college costs.  Each team of two students receives a play checkbook.  They earn scholarships and receive their financial aid and then go to Campus Life to pay for housing, the cashier to pay for tuition and the bookstore to buy books.

Trio Works in Yuma & La Paz Counties


Students and graduates from Arizona Western College’s TRIO programs will participate in the 2017 AWC TRIO Day of Celebration on Wednesday, April 26th to express appreciation to the community for its support of the TRIO programs. For millions of students from low-income families who strive to be the first in their families to attend and graduate from college, seven federally funded programs called TRIO are making a world of difference.

Experience AWC: New Student Advisement & Registration on April 29


Experience AWC is an exciting and informative program for students taking their first step into college. It is designed for all new students to provide them with the necessary information, resources and help in getting started with their new experience at Arizona Western College. The event takes place on Saturday, April 29 at 8:30 am in the AS Building on the Yuma Campus.

AWC to Celebrate Students at University Transfer Signing Day


The Arizona Western College Foundation, in collaboration with AWC Transfer Services and the KEYS program, will be celebrating students at the inaugural University Transfer Signing Day on Thursday, May 4th from 4:00pm to 6:00pm in the 3C Breezeway on the Yuma Campus.  AWC students who will be transferring to a university in the fall will be celebrated and recognized by officials from Arizona State University, University of Arizona, Northern Arizona University, and Grand Canyon University.  

Regional Thought Leaders Speak at Horizon Symposium


As part of Arizona Western College’s 14-month strategic planning process, the college is inviting community members to attend and participate in a half-day workshop featuring regionally- and nationally-recognized speakers and topic-specific community focus groups to help the college plan for the future. AWC Communications & Marketing Win National Awards


Two AWC departments brought home national awards last month, recognizing innovative efforts to communicate the benefits of higher education in Yuma and La Paz Counties, and to keep students connected to their goals.

Members of the AWC College Publications and Marketing & Public Relations teams were honored in two categories at the 2016 National Council of Marketing & Public Relations (NCMPR) Paragon Awards, including a Best in the Nation (Gold Paragon).

Prestigious Math Awards to Be Presented During April 26 Ceremony


The Mathematics Division of Arizona Western College cordially invites you to a celebration of learning and achievement as we honor the 2016-2017 participants and winners of the American Mathematical Association of Two-Year College's (AMAYT) Student Mathematics League Competition. The celebration will take place on Wednesday, April 26 at 12:00 p.m. in the EB building lobby on the Yuma Campus.

The AWC SML team placed 5th in the Southwest region and 2nd in Arizona.  AWC student Khang Pham had the 9th highest score in the region and the 3rd highest score in Arizona.

Art Garden Performance: Poetry Reading and Open Mic on April 19


Come join Arizona Western College for their Art Garden Performance on Wednesday, April 19th from 1:40pm to 3:00pm in the courtyard area between CTE and the Student Success Center on the Yuma Campus.  This week’s Art Garden Performance presents Poetry Reading and Open Mic that will be hosted by Professor Eric Lee and Professor Martha Martinez. AWC Staff, students, and the community are all invited to participate.  Please feel free to bring a late lunch.
