Seventh Multilingual Student Expo celebrates “Music as a Multilingual Bridge”

March 10, 2025

San Luis, Ariz. (March 10, 2025) – On March 19, the community is invited to join First-Year English Composition students from the Arizona Western College San Luis Learning Center as they present the Seventh Multilingual Student Expo, themed, “Soundtrack of Languages: Music as a Multilingual Bridge.”

This semester, ENG107 and ENG108 multilingual students are celebrating the way music brings people together, connecting individuals across languages and cultures. Students will sing, dance, and perform music in multiple languages, showcasing how music serves as a universal language that bridges cultural gaps. Attendees will also hear personal stories from students, reflecting on how music and multilingualism have shaped their identities and lives. In addition, the expo will explore the cultural significance behind multilingual songs and offer insight into how music can help people learn new languages while fostering connections across diverse cultural backgrounds.

“Music has this incredible way of carrying our languages, emotions, and stories across borders without needing translation,” said Dr. Sara Amani, Professor of Multilingual Composition/Specialist at AWC. “Whether it’s a song you grew up with or one you just discovered, music connects us in ways words alone sometimes can’t. That’s exactly what we’re celebrating at this expo.”

In recognition of outstanding student participation, Bryan Doak, Executive Vice President of Student Services and Learning Services, will award four $1,000 scholarships to the top four participants.

The event will be held on Wednesday, March 19 from 3:00-4:30 p.m. in Multi-Purpose Room 104 at the San Luis Learning Center, 1340 N. 8th Avenue, in San Luis, Ariz. The public and members of the media are invited to attend.
